Evaluate the Threat

Understanding the Threat

Large hail can cause major damage to solar panels, leading to hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs, replacement and labor at large solar sites, as well as endangering maintenance crews caught unexpectedly at a solar site when the hailstorm arrives. The good news is that solar panels are being manufactured to withstand increasingly harsher weather conditions such as high wind and large hail, and most manufacturers test and certify their solar panels to withstand hail up to one inch. With hail sizes ranging from 1/4 inch to over 4 inches in diameter, it's important to have an idea of the size of hail the approaching storm will bring, as well as knowing your solar farm is in the path of a hailstorm so appropriate actions can be taken to lessen the potential damage.

Advanced Awareness for Hail Mitigation

Using forecasts from the Storm Prediction Center, Indji Watch will display the potential threat of significant hail in real-time dashboards and also as a layer on the Indji Watch base map. These outlooks will be updated several times a day giving you new information on the growing or decreasing threat. Should the threat no longer exist, Indji Watch dashboards will display the all-clear indicator. For threats that do persist, you can easily determine which assets need to be placed on alert and keep staff at a heightened state of preparedness. These tools give you the extra time you need to set your internal hail monitoring process into action.
